SCHAUSPIEL
It is January 20, 1975. Zurich. Here the celebrated poet Mascha Kaléko defiantly picks at her dinner, having lost her appetite for some time. She rolls idly in bed. The memories swirl and don't let her sleep.
Anne Struve plays Mascha Kaléko. She takes the audience on a journey through the eventful life of the bold Berlin poet. The path leads to the pulsating Berlin of the 1920s and 1930s, to post-war New York, to crisis-ridden Jerusalem and back to post-war Europe. The play about the Kaléko's life is a brilliant journey through time through the restless 20th century. It invites you to remember and shows parallels to the present. A highly politically explosive piece.
This play is a tribute to Kaléko's life's work, told exclusively through her own words. Biographical poems and letter fragments from Mascha Kaléko's estate (some unknown) report on her bright years, but also on her strokes of fate, which she faced with longing and stubborn humor. The radical decision to tell Kaléko's life exclusively through her literary works gives the piece an authentic and unparalleled intimacy.
Anne Struve's performance is detailed, authentic and humorous. A declaration of love for Kaléko's poetry, it shows how timeless and lively literature remains to this day. A moving evening of theater for everyone who has already taken Kaléko's poetry into their hearts, as well as those who are immersing themselves in her world for the first time.
